Wadi Rum - More than a Dessert

Wadi Rum is best known for its connection with the enigmatic British officer T.E. Lawrence, who was based here during the Great Arab Revolt of 1917-18, and as the setting for the film that carried his name "Lawrence of Arabia".

Wadi Rum is an ideal location for hiking, climbing, trekking and camel riding. Except in summer months, climbing the Rock Bridge here is unforgettable. Jeep tours with a 4x4 offroad car and hot air balloon riding at dawn and in the late afternoon are feasible with previous arrangement. Camel Tours from Wadi Rum to either Aqaba (several days) or Petra (about a week) may also be arranged.

A Dessert full of Mountains

From the camp, you can see all major peaks in Wadi Rum: Jebel ("Mount") Umm Adaami, Jebel Rum, and Jebel Umm Ishrin. The highest elevation in Wadi Rum is Jebel Umm Adaami with a height of 1,840m (6,040 ft.). On a clear day, it is possible to see the Red Sea and the Saudi border from the top. Jebel Rum with a height of 1,734m (5,689 ft.) is the second highest peak, in winter covered with snow, and rising directly above Rum valley opposite to Jebel Umm Ishrin.
